Summer Homework

WEEK 1(June 1 – June 7):

This first week of summer, I used my skills in the English Language to comprehensively read CRASH INTO ME by Albert Borris. In this novel, four people that meet on the Internet after multiple suicide attempts and decide to take the final trip ever. They visit the sites of several "celebrities" that have committed suicide that included Ernest Hemingway and Anne Sexon. As they travel cross-country under, they come to terms with there feeling about dying and the problems they face at home. This provocative book completely caught my attention, even got me in a depressive mood for a while. However, It was kind of predictable, so the ending was kind of a let down.

WEEK 2(June 15-June 21)
The TV show, Glee has been a great success during its first season and the cover songs featured in the show are also sensational. This attracted me one afternoon to watch it on TV. Even though it was one of the last episode of its season, I caught up with what was going on very quickly. In this episode called Funk, the rival glee team tries to intimidate New Directions Glee Team by showing them how good their number is. However, as the characters each realize they are good and can win the Regional’s. Eventually they invite the rival glee team and show them a far superior number and put them into a funk of their own.

WEEK 3(june 22-June 28)glee-cast.png

On the last days of June, I traveled to Miami with my dad, where I stayed a week before leaving for summer back abroad. During this time I used my skills in the English Language to communicate with other people in Miami. Some examples are, when I went to eat to restaurants, I had to order food in English. During my trip I also went shopping, so I had to ask for help, order shoe sizes, pay and other shopping related activities in English. I had a great time in Miami with my dad and I put my English in good use to coexistwith Americans.

WEEK 4: (June 29-July 5)

On June 30, I like millions of girls, we so happy and excited for the premier of Eclipse, which is part of the Twilight Saga. I had read the book already, so I new what the movie was about. However, I like seeing the movie because when I read books I imagine the plot as a movie in my head. In this part of the Twilight Saga, Bella has to choose between Jacob, a werewolf who is his best friend, or Edward, a vampire. While dealing with the stress of senior year and the Volturi (the royal family of vampires) wanting her to become a vampire, she eventually agrees to marry Edward and become a vampire to be with him forever. I can without a doubt say this is my favorite Twilight movie so far.

WEEK 5-8: (June 29- July 26)Twilight-Eclipse-Poster.jpg

During the days of July 5 to July 30, I attend Summer Camp at Le Rosey, a boarding school in Switzerland. The goal for the camp was to practice French by taking classes and communicating in French. However, I found ways to use English during my time at Camp. One way, was to speak to other girls in my floor in English because they either knew no Spanish or French, or my French was so bad they did not understand me. However, there were a lot of girls that used English to communicate with each other because it seemed a language almost all the girl could speak. My counselor that looked after me, and woke me up everyday was from England and spoke no French and had to communicate with me in English. Also one of my closest friends was Brazilian so we had to communicate in English. I also applied my knowledge of English while reading the following books: Cum Laude by Cicily van Ziegesar; Runaway by Meg Cabot; It not summer without you by Jenny Han; Sweet Decit by Kate Brian and half of The Sun also Rises by Ernest Hemmingway. In conclusion, although the purpose of camp was to perfect my French, I ended up using my English a lot.
